A Study of Common Vulnerabilities in IoT Devices

As everyday users of IoT devices, we benefit from their convenience, yet this comes with the inherent exposure to security threats. Our research addresses major vulnerabilities in IoT devices, spanning from inadequate authentication to insecure communication and outdated firmware. Actively exploring these weaknesses across various devices, we analysed their potential impact on the CIA triad: confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The findings underscore the critical need for robust security measures, emphasizing strong authentication, secure communication protocols, regular firmware updates, and improved physical security. Focusing on key devices, including popular wireless IP cameras, our study aims to provide actionable recommendations for enhancing device security, recognizing the imperative of safeguarding our interconnected lifestyles.
