Dual-Layer Textile-Based Wearable Pressure Sensor With Robust Humidity Stability

The emergence of wearable electronics has recently led to the development and flourishing of pressure sensors. However, a recurring challenge that restricts commercialization is achieving stable and rapid response in humid environments, such as sweating. In this study, we have designed and constructed a dual-layer textile-based wearable pressure sensor using superhydrophilic poly(vinyl-alcohol-co-ethylene) (PVA-co-PE) nanofibers and hydrophobic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) textiles. Due to the excellent water transformation behavior of the pressure sensor, it demonstrates robust humidity stability when exposed to water, sweat, and tea. Additionally, the pressure sensor exhibits a sensitive and wide working pressure range (up to 20 N, approximately 150 kPa) with a response time of 369 ms. Furthermore, the pressure sensor maintains stable response characteristics after 5000 cycles of testing. Moreover, the pressure sensor is capable of capturing signals from human body movements, such as finger bending, keyboard clicking, and walking posture, both in dry and wet states. These findings provide promising possibilities for outdoor exercise applications.
