Cryptographic Agility Evaluation for 5G Slices: Challenges and Solutions

The deployment of next-generation networks such as 5G promises to improve the user experience, but it also poses the problem of combating emerging threats. Quantum computers could, in the near future, jeopardize current cryptographic systems. To counter this, the adoption of cryptographic agility is proposed as a strategy. However, implementing cryptographic agility in 5G network slices presents considerable architectural and cryptographic challenges while taking into account the complexity of multi-vendor networks. This paper presents our ongoing work on the current implementation of OpenAirlnter-face, as well as our future research to identify and address the challenges of implementing cryptographic agility.
