OLED Manufacturing Process for TV Application

Summary

Organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays are rising as the next generation display device, surpassing liquid crystal display (LCD) in its color reproduction capability. This chapter introduces the fine metal mask (FMM) and white OLED technology, the two methods applied to the manufacturing process of OLED TVs. As the white OLED and color filter (CF) methods do not use FMM for emitter deposition process but adopt the open mask and avoid potential mask sagging issues, this white OLED+CF method is regarded as a suitable technology for producing large OLED TV panels on Gen 8 size mother glass. The white OLED+CF method emits lights by filtering the white light spectrum with the RGB color filter. Its overall performance relies significantly on the efficiency of the white OLED and its spectrum.
