A Review of The Current Technological Options for Reducing The Risk of In-flight Medical Emergencies and Potential Flight Diversions in Epilepsy Patients Cases

Civil aviation is a popular and growing mode of passenger transport. In the case of epileptic patients, seizures may occur during flights and may last for prolonged periods. It is important to note that such situations can be life-threatening and may require an aircraft to be diverted to provide emergency services. This review paper proposes recent technological options to improve in-flight medical emergencies for epileptic seizures, with the aim of reducing the incidence of in-flight deaths and aircraft diversions. To carry out this work, a protocol combining pre-travel and in-flight procedures is proposed, using recent research done in epilepsy seizure prediction algorithms and closed-loop control systems.
