Micro-Synchrophasors for Protection Systems

This document presents a general guide to imple-ment a modified IEEE standard distribution test feeder with high penetration of distributed generation DG, using the OPAL-RT HYPERSIM simulation platform, which allows the generation of synchronized measurements compatible with the IEEE C.37-118 protocol. Through simulation of phasor measurement units (PMUs) real-time monitoring of specific power system nodes by directly measuring voltage and current phasors is realized. Once the simulation of the test bus is operational, it is proposed to develop software interfaces that allow processing the data generated in synchrophasor format. The evaluation of data generated is developed through of different proposed Machine Learning algorithms, trained for the detection of faults in the test feeder. Data can be processed in real-time or off-line mode; both are supported by the OPAL-RT HYPERSIM platform or other real-time simulators
