Multifunctional Neural Probe for Synchronized Stimulation and Monitoring Multiple Signals

The synchronized recording and stimulation of multimodal neural activities in multiple regions of the brain help to continuously and accurately detect and regulate brain activity at the micro-scale. This paper reports a multifunctional neural probe (MFNP) integrated with electrophysiological recording and stimulation, optogenetic stimulation, dopamine detection, and an on-chip in-situ Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The electrodes are modified with IrOx to reduce the impedance and the integrated dopamine sensor has a detection limit of less than 30 μM. A brain-computer interface probe with electric, optical, chemical, and reference in one is reported by MFNP for the first time, and multiple neuronal information can be extracted simultaneously, which is of great significance for the development of neuroscience.
