Investigating the Impact of Thickness on Microwave Absorber Based on Eco-Friendly Rice Husk in the X-Band

This paper uses the eco-friendly agriculture material as alternative for conventional microwave absorber to absorb the undesired electromagnetic radiation in X-band frequency range from 8.2 to 12.4 GHz. In this article, rice husk is used as microwave absorber due to its biodegradable nature, good dielectric properties and economic value. Two samples named as RH-4 and RH-5 is prepared with thickness of 4mm and 5mm to analyze the impact of thickness on the reflection loss of the microwave absorber. The dielectric parameters, including dielectric constant and loss factor, of the samples are determined using the transmission line method. The reflection loss is assessed using the input impedance equation and CST-MWS software. The performance of absorber is estimated in terms of their dielectric properties and reflection loss, respectively. For RH-5, the calculated absorption bandwidth is 2.7 GHz whereas for RH-4, it's 1 GHz, respectively. The result shows how the thickness of the microwave absorber affects its total performance in terms of how much energy it can convert into heat.
