A Study on the Influence of Contamination and Wear on the Surface Discharge Characteristics of Insulated Blankets Used in Live Operations

In distribution network live operations, insulated blankets are often used for insulation shielding to protect the safety of operators. In order to study the influence of surface contamination and wear on the insulation performance of the insulation blanket during operation, resin insulation blankets were selected for experimental research. The main components of the surface contamination and wear of the in-service insulation blanket were analyzed, and artificial simulation experiments were carried out on test insulation blankets with different degrees of wear and contamination. The surface discharge characteristics of the insulation blanket under different degrees of wear, contamination and discharge spacing were studied. The test results show that the wear and contamination on the surface of the insulation blanket have little effect on the leakage current; the more severe the wear and contamination, the more the discharge voltage of the insulation blanket decreases, and the greater the influence on its insulation performance. Therefore, in actual live operations, attention should be paid to the cleaning of the surface of the insulation blanket.
