Estimation of Optimal PV & ESS Installed Capacity in R&D Facility EMS

In order to achieve carbon neutrality, a policy to ensure that photovoltaic power generation becomes the main source of electricity in the Japanese power system has been established. Because of the constraints imposed by the spatio-temporal discrepancy between Photovoltaic (PV) power generation and electricity demand, the introduction of energy storage systems at the consumer side is also progressing. There have been suggestions put out regarding the implementation of an Energy Management System (EMS) that utilizes photovoltaic (PV) technology and energy storage systems. However, the effective functioning and administration of the local EMS have encountered challenges related to determining the appropriate capacity of PV generators, as well as long-term and short-term energy storage systems. This study involved the execution of a trial calculation and verification process to determine the most effective combination of photovoltaic (PV) systems and energy storage systems within a research and development (R&D) building energy management system (EMS). The objective was to formulate a more reasonable in-house Photovoltaic (PV) panel and energy storage systems (ESS) installed capacity, thereby enabling it to maintain system stability during operation. Based on the findings, it is recommended to offer clients who have not yet installed photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems with the most advantageous installation capacity and operational schedule.
