Generic EMT Modelling of DFIG Wind Turbines for Large Grid Simulation

In order to investigate the impact of integrating doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine into the large power system, the electromagnetic transient (EMT) type simulation is needed. The EMT model of the DFIG wind turbine is basic for the corresponding simulation. This paper aims to develop a generic DFIG wind turbine EMT model, which can be utilized for large grid simulation. The model contains start/stop, fault ride through (FRT) and protection block functions. The developed model has been validated by a black box model through the LVRT simulation. The case study for the DFIG wind turbine integrated into the large grid is presented. During the large grid simulation, the sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) phenomenon is induced by the series compensator. The additional damping controller method is used to suppress the SSO issue.
