Frequency Control Strategy of Deloaded WTG With Coordinated Utilization of Rotor Kinetic Energy and Pitch Angle Reserve

Participation of wind power in system frequency regulation has become a clear trend. Existing research mainly recommends two control strategies: frequency droop control and virtual inertia control, which emulate the response of synchronous generator. For frequency regulation, the control strategy should take into account the characteristics of the energy source. This paper focuses on deloaded wind turbine generator (WTG) with pitch angle reserve, and proposes a control strategy for coordinated utilization of rotor kinetic energy and pitch angle reserve. Additional pitch angle control is designed to hasten the action of pitch angle and then relieve deceleration of rotor. Simulation results verify the validity of the proposed control strategy.
