Adaptive Energy Balance Control for DC-DC Converter with Auxiliary Current Module in Microgrids

DC-DC converter with auxiliary current module (ACM) is usually taken to interface the dynamic loads that have large disturbances and even power steps, such as pulsed power loads. Instantaneous voltage disturbance occurs in the converter when the load power changes, and may be delivered to the whole microgrid if fast voltage regulation is not achieved. To this end, this paper proposes an adaptive energy balance control (AEBC) for the converter. First, the estimation of system energy balance is proposed to explore the tradeoff between accelerating voltage regulation and reducing the risk of voltage overshoot. Based on the concept of energy balance, AEBC is achieved by the adaptive adjustment of the inductor currents. Under the auxiliary energy provided by the ACM, fast voltage regulation is always obtained not only under varying load transients but also under converter startup. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the control performs well in accelerating voltage regulation, and it is easy to implement in practical applications.
