Power Control Strategy of Energy Storage System in Substation

In conventional substation DC systems, the common approach involves rectifying AC power and integrating battery energy storage technology. However, this traditional battery-only systems is plagued by challenges such as a short battery lifespan and diminishing capacity over time. In response to these issues, this paper introduces a hybrid energy storage system designed for substation DC systems. This innovative approach combines supercapacitors (SCs) and batteries, harnessing the respective advantages of these two energy storage technologies. Furthermore, the paper devises a power dynamic allocation strategy for the hybrid energy storage and a state of charge (SOC) management method for SCs. These strategies effectively address the limitations typically associated with traditional battery -only systems while also enhancing battery lifespan. The hybrid energy storage power sharing strategy presented in this paper not only resolves the shortcomings of existing substation DC systems but also contributes to the advancement of reliable and efficient hybrid energy storage solutions for critical substations.
