Short-Term Scheduling of Cascaded Hydropower Stations with Pumped Storage Considering Strong Hydraulic Coupling

Hydropower has the flexibility to regulate power outputs with prices in the electricity market to maximize profits. The addition of pumped-storage units to cascade hydro power stations to form a hybrid pumped storage power system can better play the adjustment ability of hydropower. At the same time, it can also better play the role of the electricity market in guiding and influencing power generation. So that hydropower can obtain higher generation revenue. Firstly, the electricity market mechanism for the hybrid pumped storage power system is studied. Secondly, the system is modeled by analyzing the upstream and downstream hydraulic coupling relationship of hybrid pumped storage power system. The model is converted into a MILP model by the linearization method. Taking the hybrid pumped storage power system in the Xiaojinchuan basin of Sichuan province as an example. The total revenue of the system is improved 12.87% after the pumped storage units are added to the cascade hydropower stations, and the dispatching operation of the cascade hydropower stations are optimized while the system revenue is improved.
