Joint Long-Term and Short-Term Energy Storage Planning Considering Carbon Capture

With China's ‘dual carbon’ target, low carbon transition has become an crucial goal for the future development of the power system, and due to the rapid increase in the renewable energy penetration, a single time-scale energy storage will be difficult to meet all the needs of the power system. For this reason, this paper firstly introduces a shunt-type carbon capture plant and a liquid storage tank to realize the flexible operation of the carbon capture system and reduce the carbon emission of the power system. Secondly, combining the advantages of electrochemical energy storage and hydrogen energy storage technologies, integrating the dual regulation of short-term power and long-term energy, and aiming for the minimum systematic annualized combined cost, a joint long-term and short-term energy storage planning model is developed. Finally, using a region in eastern China as an example, it is verified that the planning methodology proposed in this paper can promote the low-carbon transition of the power system while improving the planning economics of the future power systems.
