Power Supply System Design for IGCT Gate Unit in Series Application

IGCT(Integrated Gate-Commutated Thyristor) is a full-controlled high-power semiconductor device, and it can be used in the power grid field as well as IGBT. The arm bridge needs many devices in series in HVDC. So the power supply of gate unit must be isolated from each other by high voltage. The power demand of the IGCT gate unit is much larger than that of IGBT or thyristor, which increases the difficulty of energy extraction. IGCT is equipped with RC network in series applications and the energy extraction from the RC network becomes one power supply method in this field. Based on this technology, this paper proposes a new power supply system design way without high or low voltage isolation measure. The output of the power supply system is directly the cathode pole, and it can be directly connected with the turning on circuit and turning off circuit of the gate unit. The circuit form in this paper is simple, and the devices of the power system can be selected easily. It can achieve non ground power supply and non isolated power supply. It has low cost and high reliability. The most novel of this power system is that the energy extraction can be placed in the gate unit directly.
