Material Parameters Optimization of Suspension Porcelain Insulators with Cylindrical Head

With the development of UHV transmission technology, disc type suspension insulators with cylindrical head have attracted wide attention due to their advantages of light weight, good stability, good weather resistance and easy mass production. However, further research is needed to select appropriate material parameters in order to improve electrical and mechanical performance of porcelain insulators with cylindrical head. In this paper, the influence of cement, porcelain and steel parameters on the electric field and stress distribution of the insulators is studied by finite element simulation. And the optimized material parameters are obtained to minimize the maximum electric field and stress of porcelain parts by using the coordinate search method. After optimization, the maximum electric field strength of the porcelain part decreased by 6.47% while the maximum first principal stress of the porcelain part decreased by 21.44%. The research provides guidance for the selection of insulator parameters in the industrial production.
