Numerical Modeling and Analysis for Thermal Damage of OGW Caused by Lightning Strikes

In engineering, the study of thermal and mechanical damage to Overhead Ground Wire caused by lightning strikes is important. The research results reflect the damage mechanisms and degrees of damage, providing theoretical support for relevant lightning protection measures. In this paper, a comparison of the results of lightning strikes on OGW with different lightning currents is conducted by using the finite element simulation method. The paper introduces the construction of the geometry and physical model of OGW, as well as the loading of boundary conditions and initial conditions. Solutions for the impact of latent heat of phase transition are also provided. Subsequently, the paper analyzes the effects of changes in parameters such as front time, half time, peak amplitude, amplitude of continuous current, duration of continuous current, and interval between strikes in multiple strikes on the thermal and mechanical damage to OGW. The paper also analyzes the variation of residual mechanical strength of OGW during the cooling process after a lightning strike.
