Risk Map of Rainstorm Induced Outage of Distribution System

Extreme rainfall is one of the major adverse climate event that could result in extensive outage of distribution system. There is defect in the code to defend against extremes of rainfall in power utilities. Since distribution terminals (including distribution transformer and etc.) serve users in limited ranges and many of them locate in low-lying areas around the users, numerous distribution terminals fall outage due to extreme rainfall induced flooding. Flood risk of Nanning with extreme rainfall is analyzed with 2-dimensional hydrodynamic FloodArea model. The extreme rainfall of 10-year recurrence interval is estimated with generalized extreme value. Thereafter, geographic information and time series of rainfall are fed to 2-dimensional hydrodynamic model to implement numerical simulation. The range and depth of inundation map are generated for various extreme rainfalls. Moreover, the flood risk map of distribution terminals could be generated based on the inundation map. Simulation results show that the proposed approach could demonstrate risk map of rainfall induced inundation and outage risk map of distribution terminals, which could help harden distribution system against extreme rainfall.
