The Research of Boost Converter Based on Switching-inductors for Smart Campus

Smart Campus means an “all-brand-new” campus based on emerging technologies such as the Internet, the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Cloud Computing, etc. Smart campus data center that established on smart campus management system can realize concentrated management and sharing and hierarchical accessing of miscellaneous resources (such as data, documentations and images) on one platform, achieving green, efficient, innovative and smart management. Therefore, the robustness of power supply system is essential to smart campus management system. To enhance the boosting performance of DC boost converters in campus power supply system, this paper has designed a boost converter based on switching-inductors by optimizing the chopper circuitry topology of traditional boost converter to improve voltage-gain. In the end, the performance of designed boost converter is evaluated by Simulink (comes with MATLAB2016a). The simulation adopts ode3 as integration method, the switching frequency of MOSFET is set to 100KHz, the Sampling Period is set to 10-7s, the input voltage impulse is set to 5V (75% duty-ratio), values of inductors and capacitors in the converter are set to 1mH and 220uF, respectively. Simulation manifests that a 5V input voltage roughly yields a 35V output voltage and 3.5A output current, achieving a voltage-gain of 7. In comparison, traditional boost converters can only achieve a voltage-gain of 4 under the same condition. The boost converter proposed in this paper outperforms the traditional counterparts with better boosting performance and wider application range.
