Leveraging Photopatternable Nanocomposites for High Performance Tactile Neuromorphic Sensing

Sensory neuromorphic systems hold promises in mimicking how the human peripheral nervous system handles signals from our senses. Despite their potential, there is limited research on CMOS/Bio-compatible implementation and integration of these systems in hardware neural networks (HNN). In our study, we report the preliminary study on tactile neuromorphic system using a photopatternable barium titanate (BTO)/SU-8 nanocomposite based triboelectric sensor and BTO/SU-8/graphene/SU-8 based ferroelectric synapse. The developed sensor imitates human tactile sensing and the hetero-structure replicates the synaptic response. The proposed tactile sensor and ferroelectric synapse show excellent CMOS compatibility, diverse touch responsivity and exhibits impressive long-term potentiation/depression traits with a maximum dynamic range of 1.06.
