Navigating Jamming Interference: Hybrid Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication Solutions

With the widespread adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, the radio frequency spectrum became very crowded causing higher collisions and increased latency. Multiple ideas have been proposed to solve this issue. This paper investigates the potential of a hybrid Radio Frequency (RF) and Visible Light Communication (VLC) approach to revolutionize Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). While VLC harnesses the untapped potential of the visible light spectrum, offering advantages such as reduced congestion and improved efficiency, the integration of RF and VLC aims to further enhance spectral efficiency, bolster security, and ensure sustained coverage. The focus of this research is on addressing the challenges related to outage probabilities in the presence of jamming, in meeting the stringent demands of low latency and high reliability in ITS. The paper highlights VLC as a promising candidate to complement RF in high vehicle density environments, where RF experiences channel congestion leading to high packet delays. VLC’s ability to adjust scalability and overcome RF spectrum insufficiency, owing to its large unregulated spectrum and immunity to RF interference, positions it as a pivotal participant in enhancing V2V communication.
