Isolated Active Front-End with Integrated Bidirectional GaN Switches for Battery Chargers

This work analyzes the use of a single-stage, three-phase isolated buck matrix-type rectifier to implement the active front-end of a battery charger with galvanic isolation. The study considers integrated bidirectional GaN switches for the conversion circuit. Analysis and experimental verifications are reported. The solution is compared with a more conventional structure based on a three-phase power factor corrector, aiming to highlight the advantages and challenges of the emerging bidirectional switches in the considered application.
