Low THD Current Control of Nonlinear Load Characteristics Using a Single Phase Dual ZETA Inverter

Investigations and research of inductive materials have a huge impact on the design and optimization of future power electronics systems. Simultaneously the testing equipment required for this research can be enormously improved by innovative power electronic topologies. On the one hand standard measurement equipment often cannot meet the dynamic characteristics of ferromagnetic materials and is not efficient. On the other hand, controlling a nonlinear load with a switching converter is challenging because of the high gradients in the control error signal due to the nonlinearity. In this paper a dual ZETA topology also known as differential mode inverter is used to generate a low THD single phase output current which is applicable to highly nonlinear inductive loads. The proposed setup uses GaN switches to achieve higher switching frequencies and thus enables low THD single-phase output currents. Simulation results show a THD of the output current below 3%.
