Simulation of Unresolved Imagery of a Geosynchronous Satellite with DIRSIGTM

In this paper, we describe the workflow required to generate unresolved imagery of geosynchronous satellites with the physics-driven Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing Image Generation (DIRSIG ${ }^{\text {TM }}$) model generator and present a simulation example. This synthetic image generator can be used to evaluate image system designs and create realistic test imagery to facilitate exploitation algorithm development. The processes and parameters used to simulate photometric images and light curves of the DirecTV-10 (NORAD ID: 31862) satellite acquired by two small-aperture telescopes located at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, CO and Grand Junction, CO on 23 February 2021 is described. The simulator allows users to specify different parameters which may be incorporated into four GUI modules: a) the scene, b) atmospheric conditions, c) imaging platform(s), and d) the data collection dates and times and are described here. Simulated photometric images will be used to support research in remote sensing for space situational awareness.
