Fundamental Localization Limits of Quantized Uplink mmWave MIMO Systems in Moving Scenarios

In this paper, we present the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) analysis regarding the estimation of user’s position and velocity in uplink millimeter wave (mmWave) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, in which low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) are implemented at the base station (BS). Specifically, we elaborately derive the Fisher Information matrices (FIMs) for not only the channel parameters, but also the localization-related parameters, i.e., position and velocity. With these matrices, we can obtain the fundamental estimation accuracy limits on the position and the velocity. Under various situations, numerical results are provided to show the impacts of the system setup on the localization, which enables us to gain some insights into the design of the localization system.
