Lightweight Authentication and Key Agreement for Massive Diverse Power Local Equipment

With the advancement of digitization and intellectualization in power grid, the number of power Internet of Things (IoT) devices and the types of business they carry out have shown explosive growth. However, the sensor nodes are typically deployed in an unattended environment and are resource-constrained. Consequently, encryption and authentication-based protection technologies are rarely or never utilized for secure communications. This in turn leads to possible vulnerabilities, such as disclosure of sensitive information and invasion of the power system. To address these issues, this paper proposes an authentication and key agreement protocol based on lightweight encryption. Specifically, BAN logic and ProVerif tool are applied to formally verify and analyze the security of the proposed protocol. The informal security analysis and performance comparison are also carried out for the proposed scheme. The results show that the proposed protocol can effectively solve the above-mentioned security problems. In comparison with other presently existing protocols, the proposed scheme provides more comprehensive security features, which offers a strong guarantee for security protection of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with low power consumption in power systems.
