Timing and carrier Synchronization for DVB-RCS2

The second generation digital television broadcasting interactive satellite system (DVB-RCS2) is widely used in Internet access and other services. In actual scenarios, DVB-RCS2 must address the synchronization issue at the receiver. In this paper, we analyze the performance of timing synchronization under four-times oversampling and sixteen-times oversampling. According to the three frame structures designed by DVB-RCS2, we give a carrier synchronization scheme based on FFT. The scheme we proposed operates effectively in both data-aided (DA) and none-data-aided (NDA) manner. In addition, considering the complexity and performance, we propose a fine frequency offset estimation scheme based on phase difference under low FFT points. Simulation results show that the proposed synchronization algorithm suits all frame structures in the standard. The synchronization algorithm works well at low signal to noise radio (SNR).
