Fixed and Mobile Broadband Evolution

Chapter 1 provides information regarding the evolution of fixed and mobile telecommunications, as well as the Internet evolution from the 1990s to the present day. It covers the convergence of the world of telecommunications and the Internet taking place in the current 21st century, including the still relevant transition from IPv4 to IPv6 (as IPv6 finally became an official IETF standard in 2017). The merging of originally two different words, telecom and Internet, into one led to common network infrastructures for legacy services (voice, TV, business services), Over‐The‐Top (OTT) services that include all services provided over a neutral network public (open) internet, as well as new critical services with ultra‐strict Quality of Service (QoS) and security requirements, such as ultra‐high reliability and low latency.
