Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence

This chapter targets Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It includes the IoT framework, with a focus on mobile IoT in both 4G and 5G networks. Many Internet‐connected devices, including IoT devices, generate extensive data with heterogeneous characteristics, called Big Data. Hence, this chapter also covers Big Data architectures and networking, based on the ITU standardization. Furthermore, AI is in the focus of future developments in the ICT/telecommunications world, especially through Machine Learning (ML) for 5G and beyond mobile networks. In that manner, this chapter includes IoT framework and mobile IoT, Big Data architectures and networking, ITU's framework for machine learning, AI/ML for 5G, future AI‐based network service provisioning, blockchain for IoT data processing and management, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) for Quantum Internet/IP, as well as business and regulatory/governance aspects of IoT, Big Data, and AI.
