Cloud Computing for Telecoms and OTTs

Chapter 7 is dedicated to cloud computing for telecoms and Over The Top (OTT) providers. This chapter covers cloud computing architectures and ecosystem as well as the main cloud service models such as SaaS – Software as a Service, PaaS – Platform as a Service, IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service, and evolving ones such as machine learning as a service – MLaaS, and blockchain as a service – BaaS. It further focuses on the use of microservices and native‐cloud approaches by OTT providers and telecom operators. Clouds are moving toward the network edge which is needed for many critical IoT services that require very low end‐to‐end latencies. Hence, this chapter also covers edge computing and future developments for OTT cloud services based on open Internet, as well as telecom cloud services based on provision of end‐to‐end QoS. Chapter 7 concludes with business and regulatory aspects of cloud computing, including cloud data security and privacy.
