A Non-contact Translational and Rotational Force Feedback Device using Rotational Jet Propellers

In this paper, we introduce a non-contact, translational and rotational force feedback device using rotational jet propellers. With its location and orientation tracked by an optimized tracking system, the system can exert forces in arbitrary directions regardless of the device’s orientation. This device can provide forces of up to 15N in various directions. By directing the two jet propellers in opposite directions, it can produce not only two degree of freedom translational forces but also one degree of freedom rotational forces. Using three Unity applications, we verified the impact of this device on VR experiences, focusing on three aspects: immersion, realism, and discomfort.
