Two-Layer Optimization Scheduling Algorithm for ICU Resources

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an important medical treatment unit in hospitals. Effectively scheduling ICU resources, including beds, doctors, and nurses, is not only critical to improving the quality of medical care, but also reduces the workload and improves the quality of care for medical staff. The overall goal of ICU resource scheduling is to minimize medical costs while maximizing medical efficiency. Scheduling of nursing and equipment resources is the most critical and routine scheduling task in the ICU, and the results of these two scheduling tasks affect each other and cannot be completed at the same level of scheduling. Therefore, this article proposes an algorithm for solving the ICU resource scheduling problem using a two-layer model. The basic idea of this method is to determine the number of nurse resources in the ICU in the upper layer, and to find the shortest time for treating patients in the lower layer. The upper and lower layers of the two-layer model interact with each other, and the cost feedback corresponding to the lower layer scheduling will be given to the upper layer, which will then adjust the number of nurse resources accordingly. By using total cost and treatment time as the objective functions for the upper and lower layers respectively, the influence of weights on the scheduling results is avoided. In addition, machine learning models are combined to improve the efficiency of resource scheduling.
