2-Bit Binary Encoded Plasmonic Wire Grating Metasurface for Absorption Enhancement of Kesterite Solar Cells

This article presents and validates a process for increasing the energy conversion efficiency of copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS) solar cells by placing a 2-bit binary encoded metasurface of plasmonic wire grating on top of the solar cell. The presented unit cell consisted of gold nanorods placed on top of a polymer TOPAS which is placed on top of the CZTS solar cell with a molybdenum ground plate. The numerical simulations for the presented model are carried out on COMSOL. The theoretical results acquired through numerical simulations presented satis-factory results that validate that the binary-encoded plasmonic wire grating increased the absorbance of the incident light. The different encoded metasurfaces presented maximum absorbance in different wavelength spectrums of solar irradiance, making them suitable candidates for different applications.
