RFID-Powered Intelligent Shopping Cart: Streamlined Checkout and Automated Billing

The integration of Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in retail environments has revolutionized traditional shopping experiences. This work presents the design and implementation of a smart trolley system that utilizes RFID technology for automatic billing. The proposed system aims to enhance the efficiency and convenience of the shopping process by eliminating the need for manual checkout procedures. The proposed prototype is equipped with RFID readers and sensors to identify and track the items placed in the trolley. Each product is affixed with an RFID tag containing relevant information such as product name, price, and other details. As customers move through the store, the RFID readers scan the tags, updating the trolley's contents in real-time. The system calculates the total cost of items in the trolley, providing a seamless and automated billing process. It enhances the user-friendly interface that displays the itemized list of products, their prices, and the total cost. Customers can easily review and modify their selections before finalizing the purchase. The RFID-based billing system ensures accuracy and reduces the likelihood of errors associated with manual checkout processes. Additionally, the system can integrate with existing payment methods, such as mobile apps or card transactions, streamlining the overall shopping experience.
