TENSify: A Therapeutic approach towards Myotonia Congenita

A spasm is an acute muscle contraction that can be extremely painful. Myotonia congenita, characterized by spasm, is one of the prevailing symptoms of muscular dystrophy which can be extremely painful for any voluntary muscles after contraction. Hence, a provision for a non-invasive method to relieve muscle cramps is required. TENS or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation offers an innovative approach to drug free pain relief. Here, we have constructed an inexpensive and an efficient spasm reliever by TENS using Arduino UNO board, capacitor, resistor, OP-AMP 741, electrodes and 9V battery. This work aims to revolutionize therapeutic devices by using Arduino board, making them programmable and handy. Arduino can be programmed to produce an electrical pulse pattern required by the user. With the survey conducted, effectiveness of the device can be proved.
