PAFAB: A Privacy Attainment Framework for Healthcare Blockchains

Blockchain technology holds the potential to revolutionize healthcare data management by providing security, transparency, and interoperability. Nevertheless, the pervasive concerns surrounding data privacy in healthcare persist as a significant barrier to its widespread adoption, and more precisely, data access from healthcare blockchains remains a privacy concern. This paper introduces a privacy attainment framework designed to comprehensively address and enhance data privacy within healthcare blockchains. We show a novel architecture called Privacy Attainment Framework for Healthcare Blockchains (PAFAB). PAFAB uses public key encryption-based keyword search (PEKS) to protect the identity of the patient/doctor and safeguards the data by generating the indexes of the healthcare records. We run a set of experiments to justify the performance of the proposed framework in terms of throughput, latency, computation cost, and time complexity. Further, we also compute the privacy attainment of the framework based on the data breach attack. The experimental results prove that the proposed PAFAB gives a better throughput of 48 TPS which is 3.1% more than the existing solution and incurs a low latency of 8.2 ms to complete a transaction.
