Design of Intelligent Follow Anti-falling Device for Transmission Tower Maintenance

Because of the limitations of the traditional anti-dropping device usually using static or semi-static design, which cannot respond to the dynamic behavior of personnel, this paper proposes a design scheme for an anti-dropping device that can be dynamically adjusted according to the actual working position of the maintenance personnel. The new anti-falling device design scheme not only has the function of one-way self-locking of the traditional anti-falling device and the self-locking protection of the differential, but also integrates the motor, sensor, mobile power supply, and simple control unit. The sensor can monitor the relative position of the anti-falling device and the staff in real-time. The control unit drives the motor according to the signal transmitted by the sensor. The motor power is transmitted to the friction wheel through the synchronous pulley, to realize the movement following the anti-falling device. The design scheme is also proved to be reliable by field test, which meets the design and specification requirements. The design of the anti-falling device provides a more advanced and reliable means of protection for the safety of high-altitude operations, and overcomes the problems of the traditional anti-falling device in dragging, being limited by the safety rope and the position of the anti-falling device, and the challenge of prone to ‘pendulum effect’.
