Effect of Particle Size on Dispersion Velocity of Inert Particles under Shock Wave

To study the effect of different particle sizes on the flying velocity of inert particles under shock waves, a theoretical analysis model of the initial velocity of inert metal particles was established according to the relevant theories of explosion mechanics. Five schemes with different particle sizes were simulated by LS-DYAN, and the velocity distributions of inert particle layers were compared under different schemes. The radial and axial velocity distribution of the particle layer and the relationship between the inner and outer velocity of the particle layer and the particle size were studied. The results show that in the axial direction, the central part of the particle layer has the largest dispersion velocity. The upper and lower parts are affected by the end face of the shock wave, and the dispersion velocity is lower, which is 1/2 of the velocity at the central part. In the radial direction, the dispersion velocity of the outer layer of the particle layer is 1.5 times that of the inner layer of the particle layer. With the particle size increasing from 250 um to 500 um, the flying velocity of the outer particle layer decreases by 30%, while the inner particle flying velocity is not affected by the particle size.
