A Beam-Scanning Metal-Only Folded Reflectarray Antenna

A beam-scanning metal-only folded reflectarray is presented. It comprises two parts, namely a folded reflectarray and upper metasurfaces, which are all metallic. By rotating the metasurfaces on the top of folded reflectarray, the beams can be scanned in both elevation and azimuth planes. From the results of the simulation, the scanning range is ±41° in elevation plane with a 360° steering in azimuth plane. The proposed design exhibits various advantages such as low-cost, low-profile, and simple configuration, demonstrating its good potential for satellite communications.
