The Academic and Emotional Impact of Extracurricular Activities on College Students

The student's academic performance is highly mediated by their motivation, social relationships, and mentoring. However, studies have proven that the lack of motivation will lead to lower grades, disliking their actual university, or even dropping out from higher education. Even more, researchers have found that motivation can be improved through the inclusion of extracurricular activities. However, few studies have been done in Latin America trying to understand the relationship of these activities the educational achievement. Consequently, this study will compare the engineering students involved in extracurricular activities with those who don't and their academic performance. This study will also analyze the stress symptoms to know if the extracurricular activities reduce them. To compare between groups, the grades of the electives in the areas of Science and Mathematics will be used. Lastly, this research will see the requirements of a student to recommend their university to other people.
