Investigating the Influence of Lap Length on Magnetic Flux Density Distribution and No-Load Losses

In the process of manufacturing transformers' cores, the length of the lap in step-lap joints is considered one of the most critical parameters affecting magnetic flux density distribution and no-load losses. This paper delves into an exploration of the impact of the lap length of step-lap joints on magnetic flux density distribution and no-load losses. Through a comprehensive analysis of magnetic flux density and no-load losses, this research provides valuable insights for optimizing the lap length of the step-lap joints' core, ultimately leading to a more efficient and optimized transformer design. This study highlights the importance of lap length in determining no-load losses in transformers, especially at lower magnetic flux densities. The results show that transformers with lower lap length designs tend to exhibit higher losses at lower magnetic flux densities, while the differences in losses become marginal at higher flux densities. The findings presented herein contribute significantly to enhancing the design and performance of power transformers.
