Design of Electronic Seals Based on the Internet of Things

To protect the security of public property, universities often use seals on important areas such as offices and laboratories during winter and summer breaks. Traditional paper seals are not only prone to falling off but can also be easily tampered with, making it difficult to identify the “culprits.” This results in ineffective sealing, high operational costs, and low efficiency. This paper proposes an IoT-based electronic seal control system, primarily composed of an STM32F103C8T6 microcontroller, passive infrared sensor, AT24C02 memory, relay, matrix keypad, 0.96-inch OLED display, ESP8266 WIFI module, and an alarm module. This design starts by collecting sensor data at the front end, promptly and accurately detecting the conditions around the seal and displaying them. Next, it uses IoT for wireless data transmission, followed by uploading the data to a computer backend. Personnel can control the seal through a PC or mobile app. The design also allows for dynamic password setting, enabling the electronic seal to be opened promptly in emergencies. Additionally, it can automatically open the electronic seal within predefined time periods. The use of electronic seals will be a valuable exploration for modernizing, informatizing, and smartifying campus construction in universities. This design can provide convenience for sealing office spaces during holidays, isolating infectious patients in hospitals, law enforcement, logistics security, and other societal needs. It will also enhance the authority of execution and facilitate the smooth progress of various tasks.
