Task Scheduling Symphony: Reinforcement Learning for Fog Computing

In the landscape of cloud computing, the meticulous task scheduling stands out as a critical focal point. The inherent diversity of tasks within the cloud infrastructure gives rise to formidable challenges, most notably increased latency and processing time for cloud service providers. In response to these challenges, especially in the context of vital Internet of Things (IoT) operations, the introduction of fog computing emerges as a strategic solution. This study delves into the strategic utilization of fog computing for task scheduling, harnessing advanced techniques to navigate the primary concern in NP-hard problems: latency. The study places a spotlight on various techniques, prominently featuring the Deep Q-learning Network model, a sophisticated reinforcement learning framework. For the practical implementation and testing of the proposed scheduling strategies, Google’s robust platform serves as the foundation. By leveraging advanced techniques and reinforcement learning, the study aims to enhance efficiency and effectively address the challenges posed by latency and computational intensity, thus advancing the state of the art in cloud computing optimization.
