Analysis of Carrier to Noise Density Ratio, Satellite Visibility and Skyplot of Multiple GNSS Constellations using Smart Phone for Relative Positioning Application

In this work, we evaluate the accuracy of multiple GNSS observations using an Android mobile device. The results show that, in comparison to geodetic receivers, smartphones' carrier-to-noise density ratio (C/N0) has significantly decreased. Notable changes have also been observed in the frequency bands and constellations. We have seen a rise in noise in the measurements from smartphones. Moreover, tainting factors of smartphone phase observations can also damage the time-constancy and integer characteristic. Long-term drifts have been detected for POCO M2 phase measurements using GPS, Galileo, and BDS. Ultimately, the positioning experiment shows that, even with fixed integer ambiguities, a precise cm-level solution for relative location between smartphones can be obtained. The relative positioning results are very interesting, showing how an advanced an Android smartphone is a inexpensive tool for mapping and georeferencing apps with an RMSE of less than 30 cm. Particularly useful in remote areas with little to no CORS network coverage.
