GIS-GNSS Integrated Cost Efficient Static Monitoring System

Managing and monitoring static or fixed assets in real-time is a challenging job that requires frequent field visits, maintenance of the periodical records etc. This paper presents a method for dashboard-based fixed asset monitoring that displays the precise locations of each of the assets on a map and the temporal variation of the attributes of every asset. To implement the model trees on an academic campus have been used as a study. Tress and forests are an integral part of the ecosystem having immense commercial value and therefore requiring scientific management to extract the maximum benefits. This paper describes a method of tree management in a plantation integrating location information obtained from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Real Time Kinematic (RTK) technique integrated with the Geographical Information System (GIS) in terms of quality, cost, and applicability. A real-time dashboard-based tree monitoring interface is successfully developed based on the collected datasets that show the precise location of the trees in a plantation and provide an interactive facility to display the condition of any tree in a plantation or the temporal variation of the tree characteristics over the observation period. The concept developed using tree management in a plantation can be used for time and cost-efficient management of real-time static geolocation-enabled assets distributed over a large geographic area.
