Non-Linear Analysis and Simulation of an Injection Locked Frequency Divider using a Complementary BJT Oscillator

LC injection-locked frequency dividers offer superior phase noise and power efficiency performance. However, their primary drawback lies in the locking range. This paper presents a nonlinear analysis of the general divide-by-N operation, considering the exponential non-linearity of the BJTs. The analysis employs Harmonic Balance, Bessel functions, and Fourier expansion. The results are applied to the specific case of N = 2, demonstrating a close correspondence between the proposed method and the simulated circuit in Cadence IC Suite.
