Secure Communication of Visual Data via Multi-layer Photonic Band-gap Reflectance

The continuous advancements in the transfer and preservation of visual data have generated an urgent requirement for enhanced security measures. This paper proposes a novel image cryptosystem that utilizes reflectance plots of multi-layer photonic crystals band-gap, and the Mersenne Twister. The proposed algorithm generates pseudo-random bit-streams from the reflectance plots, as encryption keys. The Mersenne Twister is then utilized to generate 2 more encryption keys, as well as 3 S-boxes. The employment of encryption keys and S-boxes provides for image pixels confusion and diffusion, satisfying Shannon’s theory of secure communication. The proposed algorithm is evaluated against various existing image encryption algorithms and demonstrates superior performance in terms of security and robustness against attacks. Performance evaluation reflects the adequacy and efficiency of the proposed solution and its applicability in real-world applications.
