Studying and optimization the stress at the yield point of copper 99.9% in the drawing process with the design of experiments

Wire drawing is a metalworking and rolling process that is used to reduce the cross section by passing and pulling a wire through one or more dies. Steel, copper, and aluminum are commonly used in drawing operations in a variety of industries. Since metal fabrication processes are widely used in various parts of manufacturing industries; study and research in this field is important. Wire drawing is of great importance due to its wide applications in industries such as metal rolling mills process, wire and cables fabrication, etc. Since copper metal has wide applications in industries due to its special nature; the study of copper drawing process is considered as the main focus of this present study. In the present study, several parameters of copper (99.9%) have been studied. Process parameters such as drawing speed, amount of size reduction in the stretching stage, wire diameter at different levels (each factor at four levels) on the physical characteristics and force of the forming process, are designed and studied using Taguchi’s experimental design method. The yield stress of drawn wire is considered as a measure to evaluate the effect of parameters on physical characteristics.
